On May 25th 2020 a 46 year old black man called George Floyd was murdered by members of the Minneapolis police force. While he was dying he called out for his mother who had died two years previously. When I started singing I had no plan & no idea what sounds or words would leave my lips. I started to sing a conversation between George Floyd and his mother. I then added the names of Black and brown people killed by law enforcement as I wondered if they too had called out for loved ones.
I thought it was important to include many names of people from the UK as well as more well known names from USA including women & trans people because I believe that all black lives matter.
I couldn't include all the names but this song is for everyone, from all over the world that has died at the hands of a brutal, unjust and flawed system.

The UFFC is a coalition of those affected by deaths in police, prison and psychiatric custody, supports others in similar situations. Established in 1997 initially as a network of Black families, over recent years the group has expanded and now includes the families and friends of people from varied ethnic and cultural backgrounds.
